About My Homelab.
The purpose of my homelab is to maximize learning while leveraging the software and hardware I have without over engineering my home network.
- Networking Gear
- I currently run a MikroTik 610-8G-2S+IN switch which handles network connectivity for my servers. My current router is provided by my ISP though I am looking to switch over to a new home built router. I might run a headless router running OpenBSD or use something else in the future.
- Home Server Operating Systems & Software
- I currently run three main servers: TrueNAS Scale for network storage, Fedora server for docker, one OpenBSD server for backups, and a second OpenBSD server running DokuWiki (TrueNAS VM).
- VLANs & Subnets
- I run three different VLANs and subnets for network segmentation. In keeping with my minimalism stance I don't see a purpose in building out a whole data center in my living room. Here's a network diagram that I created using Dia:
- Computer Hardware
- I leverage the following hardware in my homelab: ZimaBoard 432 with an attached SATA SSD (not included), HP EliteDesk 800 G2, Qotom Q20332G9-S10, and a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. So far the hardware has been reliabe though there are some minor overheating issues on the Qotom Q20332G9-S10.

Here's a picture of my homelab with everything turned on except my Raspbery Pi.
